Nothing says summer quite like Strawberry Basil Lemonade 🍋 Our holy basil is rocking in the garden and aside from freeze drying weekly, throwing it in every dish, this week we decided to make a fun drink for family dinner. 📌 save this for the recipe 1 cup strawberry 1/4 cup basil (chopped & washed) 1 1/2 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice 1 cup honey or maple syrup 2 cups water (simple syrup) 6 cups cold water In a sauce pan combine syrup and 2 cups water. Stir to heat. In a blender or by hand, blend strawberries and basil until smooth - strain with a fine mesh strainer. In a large pitcher add simple syrup, water, lemon juice and strawberry basil mix. Stir to combine. Serve over ice & garnish with fresh lemon slices, strawberry & basil. It’s not a surprise we LOVE fermenting our harvest. Not only is it easy but it’s SO good for you & your gut health. (So I’m resharing this recipe from last year) 🤩 Most recipes are easily modified allowing you to add flavors that you enjoy & man do they sure add a bright taste to any meal. These dilly beans were so easy to make ✌🏼 6lbs green beans 15 garlic cloves, smashed 2 dried chile peppers, chopped 6 bay leaves 2 TBSP pickling spice 1-gallon brine (1/2 cup sea salt to 1-gallon water) Layer in your garlic & spices along with green beans. Beans should fit tight. Pour your brine over the top & make sure all the beans are submerged in the brine (this is important) Place a weight or a follower on top, add muslin cloth or fermenting pipes, and allow to sit on the counter for 7-10 days. Once your ferment is to your liking, remove the weight/follower, add a lid, and secure. Then into the fridge, it goes. Good for up to a year! Curious about fermenting, but not sure where to start? Here’s what I used to believe as a beginner sourdough baker—and spoiler alert: they were not helping 👀 Feeding my starter daily — who has time for that?! I thought I had to babysit it 24/7… nope. Otis lives in my fridge now, peacefully. Tossing my discard every single time — I thought it was waste. Turns out, it’s the secret ingredient to snacks, quick meals, and so much more. Waiting 12 hours on the dot — I was glued to the clock. No one told me fermentation is flexible if you know what signs to look for. Starting over every time my starter smelled “off” — I tossed so many perfectly fine starters. A little funk doesn’t always mean failure, friend. I was raised on stories of my great-grandparents garden—how they’d grew food with their hands, feed their family from the land, and did it all without overthinking.
